In 1939 Polish cavalry wings, as well as some infantry divisions, were armed with Russian-made 75mm howitzer, used mainly during World War I. Due to it’s origin Poles gave it a nickname “Prawosławna”, meaning “orthodox”, to emphasise the “eastern” background of the gun. Even some of the armored trains were armed with these howitzers to increase their firepower. Wz. 02/26 (pattern 02/26) guns were one of the most reliable and effective artillery in the Polish Army. Its simple but solid construcion was perfect for field conditions and easy for soldiers to repair or clean. Cavalry artillery units were one of the most dangerous and unpredicitble for Germans. For example, during the battle of Mokra one of the Polish wings armed with wz. 02/06 destroyed over 80 tanks, losing only 6 guns.
