Adrantis Endeavour Tale Of Gamers: Sitrep 2

We’re back for our second Tale of Gamers for the in-store Horus Heresy Escalation League. Week 2 saw more games, more painted armies AND the start of painting for phase two’s reinforcements.
We chatted to Matt about his Salamanders Legion for this campaign.
Matt, why did you decide to go with Salamanders for his campaign?
Salamanders are always the good guys, and I like that. I have collected iron hands in the past, so I must be drawn to shattered legions? Also, green just looked fun to try and paint. I wanted to go for a super bright green, so I could go a bit wild on highlights and test out my airbrush skills.
How did the new edition help you decide what to build into your initial 750 points?
I wanted to focus on heavy firepower and less on combat because I’ve not tried that approach much before. I’ve played a few games of 3.0 now, and tac squads seem to be a good way to go. So I wanted to have a 10-man and 15-man tactical squad from the get-go, supported by combat veterans to keep them stuck on objectives.
Tactical squads are always a safe bet when playing with low points. But having the Pyroclasts to rush forward and do some serious damage would be great to have in the back pocket.
Matt started his first 750 points with:
A Praetor
7 Pyroclasts
15-man Tactical Squad
10-man Tactical Squad
A Rhino
How did your first phase battle go?
Not so great. 10-4 in favour of knights. My rhino with the pyroclasts was pinned for 2 turns. The pyroclasts eventually got out and were pinned again. Armigers just destroyed my tactical squads from a distance. It felt impossible to do anything at all. Not being wounded on 1s and 2s helped keep them alive till the end of the game though.
And what will you be adding for your 1st 250-point reinforcement?
A lot more firepower with a Vindicator and a Centurion to open some slots later down the line. I also get to add an extra pyroclast because I had the points.
