40 hours of 40k

**TRIGGER WARNING** Please be aware that this post contains sensitive topics which some readers may find difficult. There are several links and sources for help.

Throughout 2019 there was a male suicide a nearly every 2 hours, and that was only England and Wales. If that shocks you, it should. It is the single greatest killer of males under 45 and sadly the global statistics aren’t any better. For this reason we are dedicating this edition of our newsletter to an incredibly important cause, 40 Hours of 40k.

“I can’t run marathons or swim the channel; I can however try my hardest to stay awake for 40 hours to raise money for you guys. A happy head is a happy man and that makes for a good life.”

– Andrew Weller, founder of 40 hours of 40k

40 hours of 40k is a series of fundraisers, events, raffles, streams and much more raising donations for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably). This is a charity dedicated to helping prevent suicide and encouraging everyone to be more open with their emotions, to reach out and to discuss their worries, problems, anxieties…anything that makes them miserable.

This is more than just an event though, this is a purpose for the team behind the event and we need your help to push that target, community and connection even further than previous years.

“Gone should be the days where men are ashamed to feel, and cannot talk. Talking saves lives. Suicide rates are alarmingly high and the rate of male suicides is just heart breaking. I’m hoping by combining what tools I have at my disposable, along with your support, we can change the current statistics.Too many men suffer in silence, not knowing how many people care, are here for them and want to help. There are support networks and groups all over who will and can help, if the stigma of asking for help was gone.”

– Andrew Weller, founder of 40 hours of 40k

Previous years have seen support from accross the hobby, painters, hobbyists and stores like us at The Outpost. Providing donations, entering the raffles and bidding on a charity army.

This year it’s stepped up a gear!

Bobby Clarke – our friend from Red Eagle Studios – has organised nearly 20 artists to paint a HUGE 3000 points Necron army. The artists are literally from all over the world including the USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, UK to name a few! This army (which includes an incredible and unique Deceiver) will be blind-auctioned with the winning bid announced during the event.

In addition to the amazing army there are monthly prize draws with donations from companies across the industry!

As if that wasn’t enough, there’s a HUGE raffle occuring throughout the event weekend which runs from 6am on Saturday 11th September to 10pm Sunday 12th September.

“Even if we can help just one person to open up or let more men know they don’t have to “man up” they can cry, talk, share, break down, be held and loved, we can beat this together.”

– Andrew Weller, founder of 40 hours of 40k

You can have a listen to the most receent 2P’s podcast here. Andrew and Bobby are on there from 1hr 22min. Beware though, it contains some fruity language and as the guys on the recording note, the room get’s incredibly dusty every so often…

What can you do to help?

Such a great question and one most welcome!

1. Do what you can to listen to others in your life – you might literally save a life. Pass them the information for CALM (see below)

2. Please talk to someone – if you’re feeling low for any reason, talk about it. You can call CALM on 0800 585858 5pm-12am 365 days a year! You can also visit www.theCALMzone.net for more help.

3. Please share the message, this email, the links; anything that might help anyone.

4. Jump online and show your support to the artists, people and companies who are donating and helping however they can. Everyone can be found in various places and links below.

5. Donate to the JustGiving page, enter the raffles and try to win as many prizes as possible! After all, the more you enter, the more you will help people!
