Discount Salamanders – Warhammer 40k
The Salamanders are one of the original Space Marine legions, and are modelled strongly after their primarch, Vulkan. The Salamanders often call themselves the Fireborn, and they draw strong inspiration from their volcanic homeworld of Nocturne. Vulkan, unusually for a Primarch, was a blacksmith on Nocturne when he was found by the Emperor, and the Salamanders are craftsmen above all else. Their numbers are lower than most Space Marine chapters, but this is made up for by the intricately crafted nature of their wargear. Each Salamander is an artisan as much as a warrior, and they spend weeks crafting their impossibly powerful weapons and incredible armour. Vulkan is renowned to this day as one of the finest forgesmiths in the galaxy. Before he vanished after the Horus Heresy, he sent a ship with seven weapons of incalculable power out into the void with instructions to hide those weapons lest they fall into the wrong hands. His sons today believe that finding these weapons is a sacred mission left to them by their Primarch, and when they find all seven weapons he will judge them worthy and return to them.Their fireborn nature is borne out in the chapter’s choice of weaponry. The Salamanders are the undisputed masters of close quarter, brutal gunfights, with flamer and melta weapons their tools of choice. They are especially resistant to these weapons themselves, both through their armour upgrades, and through their innate toughness and resistance to heat. Unlike most of the Imperium’s defenders, who generally view the masses of humanity as expendable, the Salamanders are notable in going out of their way to protect civilians. This has on occasion caused friction with other defenders of the Imperium who view the Salamander’s humanitarianism as naive at best and actively dangerous at worst. This outlook is caused by the Salamander’s unique outlook. Unlike almost every other Space Marine chapter, the Salamanders live among the common citizenry on Nocturne. They see them as cousins, brothers, sisters, aunts, not just as the faceless mass of humanity, and this informs their outlook on the rest of the galaxy. The Salamanders deeply understand the humans they live amongst, with a zeal to protect every citizen far beyond that of any other chapter. The Salamanders are perfect for anyone who loves scourging their foe with fire, and burning them out at close range rather than hanging back and shooting from range.
