Millions of years before humanity evolved from Terra’s blue oceans, the Necrontyr lived, died, and were reborn. Theirs was a bitter, suffering species, their homeworld wracked by intense solar winds and radiation storms, resulting in a terribly low life expectancy and a morbid outlook on their seemingly cursed lives. Driven to flee their cruel birth world, the Necrontyr strove out into the galaxy, building an empire at the dawn of time, thousands of dynasties reaching out into the stars under the command of the Silent King.  During their expansion, the Necrontyr came into contact with another early race, the Old Ones. These beings had, through science and engineering, become immortal, but they refused to share the secrets of their longevity with the short lived Necrontyr. In addition, the Old Ones technology for space travel was so far advanced as to make the Necrontyr look like primitives. Stung by this, the Necrontyr strove ever deeper, creating technology far beyond mankind’s greatest imaginings even in the 41st millennium, discovering secrets untold. Eventually, the Necrontyr’s furious anger at the Old Ones spilled over into war, the Necrontyr attacked the Old Ones all across the galaxy, but were defeated. While the Necrontyr now held an advantage in technology, the Old Ones used their Webway portals to consistently outmanoeuvre their forces, and eventually drove the Necrontyr back to their homeworld. In time, the Old Ones almost forgot about the short lived, belligerent race they had almost wiped out. The hearts of the Necrontyr, however, were full of hate, their anger curdling into a vicious loathing of all other life. They knew, however, that they simply could not defeat the Old Ones.At this moment, the nadir of their kind, the Necrontyr discovered the C’tan. Star vampires, the oldest living creatures in existence, the C’Tan harvested the energy of suns to sustain themselves. Discovered the Necrontyr’s interest in them, and coming to realise that the life energies of the Necrontyr were far more palatable than the flavourless energy of stars, the C’Tan offered an alliance. The Necrontyr accepted, and with that acceptance doomed their race. The C’Tan offered great technology and advancement to the Necrontyr, boosting their understanding of energy to levels unknown in the galaxy to this day. And they offered one final gift. The chance to throw off their mortal shells and live in immortal metal bodies. The Necrontyr, blinded by the chance of immortality, took it. Their weak, fleshy bodies were consumed and their intellects and essence transferred to metal shells. But the price was their soul. With these gifts, the Necrons, as they were now known, conquered the galaxy, slaughtering the Old Ones and every living thing they could find. But eventually, the harvests of living flesh grew thin, so the Necrons built enormous tombs across the galaxy where their legions could sleep away the millennia, waiting for fresh life to sprout so they could once again, harvest.  Now, they are awaking.The Necrons are the most technologically advanced faction in Warhammer 40,000. They have enormously powerful ranged weapons that strike fear into the hearts of their enemies, and their metal bodies have Reanimation Protocols, allowing them to shrug off even the biggest hits. Their technological prowess allows them to perform feats of movement that stun even the Eldar or Tau. Finally, they have the enormous models of their chained gods, the C’Tan, which make a truly stunning centrepiece for any army!
